Meet Munchie, *not an ordinary cat* – He has been diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism, a rare disorder of the parathyroid that can cause several issues with calcium and Vitamin D. In short, it’s an unusual form of dwarfism that will keep him KITTEN-SIZED forever!
Back in September 2019, Munchie was left abandoned outside a vet clinic, where he was diagnosed with bilateral corneal edema. That means – his eyes are cloudy, but his vision isn’t actually deterred by it! So, whoever dumped him didn’t hassle to look into the real cause. Luckily, a woman named Emily Tomlinson, who worked at that clinic, decided to take the adorable catto home.
But Emily was starting to question if anything else was wrong with Munchie as Christmas turned around.
Apparently, the catto had gained very little weight for a growing kitten, and then on the day after Christmas, he collapsed!
And after four-nights of extreme care and testing, he was diagnosed with hypocalcemia – and his levels of calcium were far lesser than the minimum healthy range is.
Vets put him on a proper regimen of supplements to help him recover and ran several tests to find the cause of the insufficiency.
In the end, he was found to have hypoparathyroidism, which is so rare that one other case of a kitten diagnosed with it can be found in medical research.
And due to lack of past data, it’s hard to predict whether the condition will affect Munchie’s lifespan or health in the future.
However, talking of today, on his special diet, he’s just like any other healthy kitten – expressly SMALLER! Noice.
