Hello, good folk! Recently, Netflix has dropped a new tv series called “The Witcher” – based on a set of novels and video game franchise – and people have been comparing it to Game Of Thrones and calling it the next epic drama-series of the coming decade!
Now, as I heard of it, I was dubiously hopeful because I do miss the intensity of a show like Game Of Thrones; but I also know, it’s not that easy to replicate the real winter of the decade! But still, I decided to watch the pilot season of The Witcher to see if it stands up to GOT, after all, it was for everybody’s well-being.
So Before We Begin, Here’s The Synopsis Netflix Gives About The Witcher:
At the very beginning, we see Geralt, aka the Witcher, fight a spider-monster in the water, and it seems the show is moving at a faster pace than GOT already!
Speaking of wardrobes, it looks oddly similar to that of GOT’s. Like, if Podrick morphed with an e-boy!
Further Moving, WAIT! White Hair? WHITE WALKER? And The Red Woman, Aka Renfri, Seems Ygritte – Very Much!
Sorry, My Bad! I Judged Too Quickly About The White Walker Comparison! And Geralt Is More Reminiscent Of Jon Snow Than A White Walker – The Man Of Few Words!
Oh, Great! We Got A Prophecy!
Here, Stregobor, who is a wizard, is asking the Witcher to kill Renfri – because the wizard believes that Renfri is the last of the princesses born during the Lilit eclipse and basically, their job is to burn down the world to ashes. Plus, I should also mention at this point, I have officially hooked!
Now, Jumping Over To Another Kingdom:
Cintra (the kingdom mentioned above) is under attack by the Nilfgaardian army (not sure of the reason) – but I wonder the connections will be out in due time.
WAIT! A DOUBLE CROSS!!!
No doubt Renfri wants Geralt to kill Stregobor, but whose side will the Witcher choose? But basically, his dialogues are simple – “Hm.”
And back to the other kingdom, the battle has begun, and Cintra is fighting against the Nilfgaardians. Still don’t know why? But, the battle scenes will be less gory than the Game Of Thrones battle scenes!
And it appears the Princess of Cintra has something in common with the Witcher…could this be the link between the two?
I Bet This Is The Most Tough Line In The History Of Television:
Back in the woods again!
I knew there was a spark between these two – shading lights on our Jon Snow and Ygritte – WAIT! Could that possibly mean that Renfri will die? spoiler alert
Back here, the world was colliding!
And I stand correecccttt…LOVER’S FIGHT:
So, Geralt Killed Renfri And Became The Monster Everyone Thought He Was!
I need answers!!!
Whoa! That was unexpected, but that’s what a great show does, doesn’t it? Anyway, onto the real matter on hand, is this the next Game Of Thrones? Well, though I have mentioned a few similarities, I wouldn’t call The Witcher the new GOT just yet. No question, the show is complicated and well-layered, but it’s more focused on a hero’s journey rather than a fight to rule over kingdoms. That being said, the show is pretty well-made and engaging. In conclusion: Is The Witcher an epic drama? Oh Yes! But, is The Witcher the next grand epic drama? Well, until I watch is fully, the only answer I have is “Hm.”
